Creator Spotlight: Giulia Gartner

Can you tell us a little about yourself and your background?

My name is Giulia and 19 year old self-taught travel & lifestyle photographer. I am based in a small village in the heart of the Dolomites in northern Italy. I can call myself lucky to live in this area, to have such beautiful mountains right on my door step. Through photography I have learned to appreciate more and more the place I live in. I want to tell stories, to inspire people to get outside and discover the beauty of this world.

How did you become a photographer?

As a kid, I was always driven by arts, whether it was music, painting or taking pictures. I took the digital camera of my mother and went out to point and shoot at everything around me. On my 14th birthday, I got my first DSLR camera and I enjoyed taking pictures of my friends, on vacations and even some landscapes now and then. Last September when I did my driving license I started to explore and go to places that were close to my home. I loved being outside and explore the different areas and one day I decided to take my camera with me. I rediscovered my passion for photography and decided to invest in a good full frame camera. I will never regret this move. Every time I went out to take pictures I learned something new about photography and look at things differently and I started sharing my pictures on Instagram and here I am today.

What do you look for in a subject?

I think for me personally the most important thing is the light, I love to shoot in the morning although you have to wake up very early and I really like sleeping. However it is worth it, I often go camping in the mountains so when I wake up I am ready to shoot and don’t have to hike in the dark. I especially love shooting mountains and waters, there is something magical about how lakes and the ocean look from above. I always try to find a foreground and a background I also like working with different layers to create depth.

What does the community aspect of Instagram mean to you?

Instagram is a very useful tool to meet like-minded people who share similar interests. Connecting through Instagram and interacting with people from all around the world is probably the best thing next to sharing your work with them.
