Tapestry Sculptures by Frédérique Morrel
Paris-based, embroidered taxidermy sculptor Frédérique Morrel creates artefacts to re-enchant the world. Morrel is a preserver of history that would otherwise be forgotten. Her work began with a passion for collecting hand-woven vintage tapestry from the 18th century onwards that she intricately weaves together contrasting eras and images, telling stories of simple, ideal happiness.
Morrel wraps her stories around antique taxidermied animals, encasing them, knitting links where generational transmission was lost. Occasionally her animals speak their own language. Morrel’s materials have been caressed by many hands.
During Morrel’s prolific 25 year long career her much revered sculptures have been exhibited all over the world and are held in many international collections
